Life in municipal work
Grace Watson
1. What is your role and what does a typical day look like for you?
In my role, I provide front line service and support to residents, businesses, and visitors. My day might include helping a new business owner with a licence application, processing tax payments, issuing marriage licences, or handling portable sign applications. Service Halton Hills is often the first point of contact people have with the Town, so I respond to a wide range of inquiries and ensure residents are connected to the right departments. No matter the task, delivering high quality customer service is always a priority.
2. How did you find your way into municipal work?
The biggest impact comes from the everyday interactions I have with community members. Whether over the phone or in person, greeting people with kindness and respect shapes how they feel about the Town and their overall experience. As a Customer Care Coordinator, I act as a link, connecting people to the answers they need in a way that eases confusion and builds trust.
3. What part of your work has the biggest impact on your community?
I spent several years in customer service, primarily in retail, and was looking for a role that offered the same public interaction with more balance and purpose. When I saw an opportunity to work for the town I grew up in, it felt like a natural fit. It allows me to use my skills while giving back to the community that shaped me.
4. What do you enjoy most about serving your municipality?
I most enjoy interacting with the people who live, work, and visit our community. I value helping resolve concerns and connecting people with the services and resources they need.
